Dirk's business experience includes being an owner of Ultrafit Associates and a co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer of Peaksware, LLC. He is also a USA Cycling certified coach, author of "Workouts in a Binder for Indoor Cycling", and raced for eleven years as a professional cyclist including five seasons spent in Europe. Dirk has been fortunate enough to gain, and share, immense coaching and training knowledge passed down from his father Joe Friel, author of "The Training Bible" series of books.

Dirk's racing experience includes the prestigious classics Het Volk, Paris-Brussels, and many stage races such as the Tour DuPont, Tour of Holland, and Tour of Malaysia. His strength is evident in the one-day classics demonstrated by his consistent placing in the top 10 among Americans at the USPRO Road Championship in Philadelphia. Dirk has also broadened his athletic experience by completing the 2005 Ironman South Africa in 10:45.

Helping prepare athletes young and old for regional, national and World Championship events is one of Dirk's strengths. He has worked with professional cycling teams such as Silence-Lotto, Team High Road and Astana, as well as for national governing bodies as a training consultant. He specializes in training with power and preparing young athletes for European racing.

Dirk currently lives in Boulder, CO with his wife Kim and their daughter, Keara.
